I’ve had a website for as long as I can remember. First on WordPress, then Squarespace, then back to WordPress, then Squarespace again. Each time, I’d spend a weekend getting it to look right, then slowly watch it gather dust as the content aged and the design felt less and less like me.

This time is different. This site exists because I built it.

Not because I finally learned to code properly — I still haven’t. But because the tools have changed enough that someone like me can now build something real without waiting for a developer, without fighting with themes, without compromise.

The shift

Something happened in 2023. AI coding tools got good enough that a creative director with no CS background could ship actual software. I know because I’ve now done it twenty times.

This site is number twenty-one.

It’s built with Astro, styled with Tailwind, and deployed on Netlify. I designed every pixel, wrote every line of content, and — with a lot of help from Claude — wrote the code too.

Is it perfect? No. Could a proper developer have done it faster and cleaner? Almost certainly. But it’s mine in a way that no template ever was.

Why this matters

For years, I told clients that the barrier to good digital work was falling. Now I actually believe it.
